Are you looking for an elective rotation for your clinical year? It is important to make contacts with cancer centers in you community. Networking within APAO can also be beneficial, so become a member and get involved. Also, MD Anderson offers a four week elective rotation for exceptional senior students.

Are you looking for postgraduate training? MD Anderson offers the only postgraduate PA program in oncology.

Are you looking for educational material on clinical oncology? MD Anderson offers an online course, Introduction to Clinical Oncology, and the cost is only $10 for students.

 

Student Representative

Alison Schwartzberg, PA-S

Alison Schwartzberg is currently a physician assistant student at Touro College in Mineola, NY. She grew up in Memphis, Tennessee and did her undergraduate work at Boston University earning a Bachelors of Science degree in communications. After a 3 year stint in the entertainment industry she decided to change career paths to health care and began working at an oncology research company as an assistant project manager. Simultaneously with her research duties she returned to school to get her science prerequisites fulfilled. During this period she attended the 2009 APAO conference in Boston which impressed her with the opportunities available to PAs and confirmed her desire to apply for physician assistant training. She is now residing in Long Island, NY and finishing her second semester in the BS/MS program at Touro College.

 

Student Scholarship

Each year the APAO awards one or more scholarships to PA students interested in a career in the field of hematology/oncology. Awards are typically $2000 – $2500. Please check back for application details for the 2012 APAO PA Student Scholarship. The application and criteria will be listed here.
